The Uses of Blockchain People May Not Have Considered

Last Updated: February 25, 2025By

Blockchain isn’t that new anymore. It quickly entered the world’s vocabulary over a decade ago due to the fact that it was used in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies which made a lot of headlines. People quickly saw the potential of this new development to change the way that finance worked. They were totally correct and we now live in a world where blockchain and crypto are becoming a bigger part of the way people handle their everyday finances.

There are a lot of other uses of blockchain (some relating to finance) that not everybody has considered. The truth is that this tech has the potential to change the way a lot of different industries work.

Crypto and Blockchain Gaming and Gambling

One of the fastest-growing applications of blockchain is in crypto gambling where decentralized casinos are offering players an experience that is more transparent and secure than traditional online gaming.

A major advantage is the speed and anonymity of transactions. Crypto casinos allow instant deposits and withdrawals and manage to bypass the delays and restrictions of traditional banking systems. Standard online casinos may require identity verification (such as a bank verifying the transactions) but many blockchain-based platforms let players gamble anonymously, making the process more privacy-friendly in an age where people care about the data and details that they share. When people play online casino games at these specific crypto casinos they are not short of options. There are often the same level of games or even more than we see on other platforms.

It is likely that crypto gambling is only getting bigger and customers are going to have more games and options for play. The ability to create a more anonymous and convenient gaming experience is making blockchain casinos an attractive alternative to their centralized counterparts and tech-savvy audiences are particularly drawn to these cryptocurrency platforms.

Blockchain has also been used in some other games besides casinos. People are starting to use blockchain technology to introduce unique items within games that can be traded. This can create a whole marketplace. Those who have an interest in these apps and games may have noticed the likes of Axie Infinity and other blockchain games introducing these kinds of mechanics and having some success. NFT games have become a big part of the industry and could grow as people become more familiar with them and understand the way that they provide true unique experiences and assets.

Yield Farming – A Financial Powerhouse

Another blockchain application that many people overlook (or just don’t know about yet) is yield farming. This is a process that allows users to earn passive income by lending and staking or providing liquidity in decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms.

Traditional banking may offer low interest rates on savings, but DeFi protocols enable users to use their smart contracts to try and earn rewards. Instead of depositing money in a bank, users can lend their cryptocurrency, stake tokens in liquidity pools, or participate in strategies that can sometimes provide and generate interest-like rewards.

Yield farming gained popularity with the rise of platforms like Compound. These can offer financial services without the need for traditional banks. Investors lock their funds in smart contracts which may automatically distribute rewards based on lending demand.

Yield farming is not a guaranteed way to earn rewards but a lot of people are experimenting with it and this is an industry that could grow. This simple guide will help people to understand what it entails.

Supply Chain Transparency – Tracking Goods in Real Time

Transparent practices are at the heart of crypto and blockchain and one of the biggest challenges in supply chain management is tracking products accurately from manufacturer to consumer. Fraud can sometimes be an issue in traditional supply chains along with other issues often leading to delays or false product claims. Blockchain solves this by creating a transparent and unchangeable ledger that records every step of a product’s journey.

For example, companies like IBM and Walmart have integrated blockchain into their supply chains to track food safety and product authenticity. If contamination or a defective product is detected the companies can quickly trace the exact origin and remove affected goods without disrupting the entire system.

Blockchain also helps in luxury goods and pharmaceuticals where counterfeit products are a major issue. By embedding unique digital fingerprints on blockchain ledgers these brands can verify authenticity in new ways thanks to the blockchain tech that has become so huge. Not everybody considers the fact that the supply chain can be revolutionized by blockchain but it is an area that big companies are already focusing on.

The Future of Blockchain

It is likely that blockchain has applications for multiple different industries which will continue to stick around for decades to come – industries are experimenting with new projects that utilize crypto and blockchain to disrupt industries. Some businesses are already exploring blockchain for e-passports and digital IDs. This is just one small example of how the security and anonymity of the tech can be used for good and make things more secure for everybody. Blockchain and crypto tech have continued to grow as people realize the kinds of things that they can use the DeFi technology for.
