AI Helps Crypto Investor Recover $320K in Lost Bitcoin After 10 Years
A crypto investor has gone viral after revealing how AI chatbot Claude helped recover access to 5 Bitcoin that had been locked away for over a decade.
The story surfaced on X after a user known as “Cprkrn” explained how years of forgotten passwords and missing wallet backups had left him unable to access his Bitcoin holdings, now worth more than $300,000.
According to the investor, the issue began after he changed one of the passwords connected to an old Blockchain.info wallet many years ago. While he still remembered parts of his login details, one missing password was enough to completely lock him out of the wallet. For nearly two months, he attempted different recovery methods using password recovery tools and AI-assisted brute force techniques. Billions of password combinations were tested without success.
Eventually, he decided to take a different approach.

Using Anthropic’s Claude AI assistant, he organized and analyzed years of personal digital history, including old laptops, hard drives, email archives, Apple Notes exports, and even messages from X. One of the key breakthroughs reportedly came from an old college computer that still contained a forgotten wallet backup file.
Claude helped trace patterns across notebook entries, saved files, and password hints, eventually identifying a password structure linked to an old mnemonic phrase written in one of his notebooks. With that information, the investor was finally able to decrypt the backup file and recover access to the dormant wallet.
Blockchain data shared online appeared to support the claim, showing that roughly 5 BTC was moved from a wallet that had remained inactive since 2015.
The investor also claimed that the entire recovery process cost less than $20 in AI compute resources, despite trillions of password attempts being tested through various recovery tools.
The story has sparked fresh discussion around lost Bitcoin wallets and the growing role AI could play in digital asset recovery. Industry estimates suggest that millions of Bitcoin remain inaccessible because of forgotten passwords, lost seed phrases, or damaged storage devices.

As AI tools become more advanced, some believe similar recovery efforts could become far more common in the years ahead.
