BREAKING: NEAR Protocol Surges 22% to $1.45 on Heavy Volume
NEAR Protocol (NEAR) has surged 22.3% in the past 24 hours to reach $1.45, marking one of the strongest performances among top-50 cryptocurrencies on March 3, 2026.
The layer-1 blockchain’s native token jumped from a 24-hour low of $1.17 to a high of $1.45, representing a $0.26 increase. Trading volume exploded to $775.86 million as investors piled into the asset.
Market Cap Gains $340 Million
NEAR’s market capitalization increased by $339.8 million in 24 hours, rising 22.3% to $1.86 billion. The token now ranks #43 by market cap among all cryptocurrencies, with a circulating supply of 1.29 billion NEAR tokens.
The rally extends NEAR’s impressive weekly performance to 48.2%, making it one of the top-performing major altcoins over the seven-day period. Monthly gains now stand at 19.6%.
Price Action and Volume Spike
The surge comes amid significantly elevated trading activity, with the $776 million in 24-hour volume representing a substantial increase from typical daily ranges. The price has maintained momentum with a 2.3% gain in just the past hour.
Despite the sharp rally, NEAR remains 92.9% below its all-time high of $20.44 reached on January 16, 2022, during the previous crypto market peak. However, the token has rallied 173% from its all-time low of $0.53 set in November 2020.
Technical Outlook
NEAR’s fully diluted valuation now stands at $1.86 billion, with the circulating supply representing nearly 100% of the total token supply of 1.29 billion tokens. The protocol has no maximum supply cap.
The rapid price movement and high volume suggest strong buying pressure, though traders should note the significant intraday volatility with a $0.28 range between the 24-hour low and high.
Market participants will be watching whether NEAR can maintain support above the $1.40 level or if profit-taking emerges following the sharp rally. The token’s performance comes as broader cryptocurrency markets show mixed signals in early March 2026.
