Why Facebook and Microsoft’s in race for Metaverse?
The Metaverse has recently been a hot topic of debate, with Facebook and Microsoft claiming control of Metaverse. But first, what exactly is the Metaverse? And when will it be delivered?
The 1992 science fiction novel “Metaverse” authored by Neal Stephenson, is credited with coining the phrase “Snow Crash,” He envisioned lifelike avatars interacting in realistic 3D building structures and other virtual reality placements. Ever since several technological breakthroughs have paved the way for establishing a true metaverse, this online virtual world blends augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D holographic avatars, video, and other means of communication. As the Metaverse expands, you’ll be able to coexist in a hyper-real parallel existence.
The Metaverse hints the online gaming universes like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox. And the companies who make such games want to be a part of the Metaverse’s development. Users “live” in a digital universe using a combination of technical characteristics such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and video. Supporters of the Metaverse see users working, playing, and staying connected with friends through everything from concerts and conferences to virtual trips across the world.

“Right now, we are on the cusp of the next internet,” Matthew Ball, managing partner of venture capital company Epyllion Industries, stated on his website in February 2021.
Ultra-fast internet speeds, virtual reality headsets, and permanent always-on online worlds are already accessible, even if they aren’t available to everyone.’ Metaverse’s essential features, according to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the newly renamed Meta (formerly Facebook), will take five to 10 years to become ubiquitous. Certain aspects of the Metaverse, however, are now apparent.

Facebook made significant investments in 2014 with the purchase of Oculus. The next platform and media will be a more immersive and embodied internet, where you’re in the experience rather than simply looking at it, and we call it the Metaverse, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who announced the company’s rebranding last month. Meta is all about planning a virtual world in which digital avatars communicate with one another through virtual reality headsets for business, travel, or recreation. The Metaverse, according to Zuckerberg, has the potential to replace the internet as we know it.
Microsoft is a software development firm. Microsoft’s Mesh technology allows developers to create mixed and extended reality (XR) applications that combine the real world with augmented and virtual reality. Microsoft commented earlier this month on plans to integrate mixed-reality to Microsoft Teams in 2022, including holograms and virtual avatars. Next year, there will be explorable 3D virtual connected regions for shops and workplaces. The US Army is working with Microsoft on an augmented reality Hololens 2 headgear for troops to train, rehearse, and fight in. Xbox Live also connects millions of video game players all around the globe.

Epic Games is a video game development studio. “It’s no secret that Epic is committed to building the Metaverse,” said Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite. There have been concerts by Ariana Grande and Travis Scott, movie trailers and music premieres, and even an “immersive” re-enactment of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legendary “I Have A Dream” speech from 1963. It creates realistic synthetic individuals with its MetaHuman Creator, which might be how you construct your digital doppelganger in future open-world games.
Roblox is an online game that you may play. The platform, which debuted in 2004, hosts a bevy of user-generated games, including role-playing games like Bloxburg and Brookhaven. Users may build houses, work, and role-play situations. After going public this year, Roblox is now valued at more than $45 billion. On the day of the site’s IPO in March, Roblox inventor and CEO David Baszucki tweeted – Thank you to all who helped bring the company “one step closer to fulfilling our vision of the #Metaverse.” Since then, Roblox has collaborated with Vans to create Vans World, a virtual skate rink where users can try on and buy new Vans gear, as well as a limited Gucci Garden where you can try on and purchase garments and accessories for your virtual self.
Minecraft is an internet game that you may play. Minecraft, a famous virtual world owned by Microsoft and popular among youngsters, is the digital equivalent of Legos, in which players may create their digital avatar and build anything they like. As of August, Minecraft has over 140 million monthly active users. It has surged in popularity among youngsters who have been forced to depend increasingly heavily on virtual connections as a consequence of the disease.
