Last Updated: March 20, 2020By

The Netherlands-based PHBC (Public Health Blockchain Consortium) has declared the release of a blockchain-based system created to track the movement of individuals not affected by high-risk viruses. The purpose of the development is to support healthy people to avoid potentially life-threatening diseases.

The PHBC published the release on March 19, showing that the blockchain-based platform will monitor continual, systematic, and anonymous affirmation of workplaces and communities, which are not bothered by deadly viruses, including the Coronavirus.

Recording virus data on the blockchain

“The blockchain stores a workplace’s or community’s protection certificate from security organizations or government bodies to assure that all persons who enter a safe zone are continuously monitored,” the PHBC additionally demonstrated the system’s operation. If a person earlier attended an infected area, they are obligated to stay in a quarantine zone, wherein communities can implement isolated places of residence to incoming visitors.

Ayon Hazra, the administrator for the PHBC, stated,”PHBC’s virus-free monitoring blockchain can automatically identify zones with and without validated incident reports by integrating real-time information from virus surveillance providers with artificial intelligence and geographical information systems. Those areas without validated reports of contamination are elevated to safe zone status. Communities and workplaces can maintain such safe zone status if they restrict access to anonymously identified persons and only allow movement to and from other safe zones.”

Blockchain in health proliferates

The coronavirus outbreak has driven blockchain companies to more actively promoting health-focused applications and systems. Tech firm ConsenSys will turn off its health division, which will examine blockchain utilization to the health industry, indicating issues such as increasing costs and access to care as some of the areas where blockchain can offer.

China-based tech startup Hyperchain declared the launch of its blockchain-based platform to battle against the coronavirus pandemic. The platform will concentrate on medical supply donations, assuring that the donation process is traceable, immutable, and reliable.
