In an ambitious stride to solidify its stature as a versatile, multi-layer wallet solution, Keplr—the preeminent wallet app within the Cosmos blockchain domain—is poised to incorporate support for Ethereum and its Layer 2 blockchains. This strategic enhancement, crafted by founders Tony Yun and Josh Lee in 2021, aims to fortify Keplr’s standing as a leading wallet, now engaging over a million active users monthly.
This latest evolution is anticipated to empower users to seamlessly view and manage Ethereum-based assets directly through the Keplr interface. According to Lee, this Ethereum integration is poised to attract a more expansive user base, particularly those who navigate both Cosmos and execution environment-based chains like the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Moreover, it seeks to bolster burgeoning modular projects that operate across both ecosystems.
“A significant portion of our users are navigating both Keplr and an EVM wallet. We’re striving to serve this emerging modular community,” Lee conveyed to The Block. Lee elaborated that the Cosmos software stack has been instrumental in the development of modular projects such as Initia, Dymension, Saga, and Celestia.

Championing the Modular Ecosystem
These modular ventures, built upon Cosmos, often launch EVM-based rollups that necessitate wallets like MetaMask. The user base of these rollups represents a new demographic that Keplr aims to engage by embedding EVM compatibility within its wallet.
“This evolution for Keplr is a natural progression,” Lee remarked.
The integration of EVM support into the crypto wallet is projected to commence in a beta phase within a few weeks, albeit with a tentative timeline.
Lee detailed the technical nuances of incorporating EVM support into Keplr, highlighting the adoption of EIP-6963 for multi-injected providers. This integration ensures that Keplr can operate concurrently without disrupting existing wallet usage patterns, thereby eliminating the need for users to toggle between different wallets.
He further underscored that Keplr’s initial objective was to establish a cross-chain, multi-chain wallet, and the EVM integration represents a pivotal advancement in this trajectory. He emphasized that the EVM support is designed to serve existing Keplr users who also utilize EVM wallets, rather than to compete directly with MetaMask.
