“First-ever” metaverse fashion week will be held in Decentraland
Decentraland, a virtual reality platform, has launched Metaverse Fashion Week, a digital fashion week. Firms such as The Fabricant will present new clothing collections in the metaverse from March 24 to 27.
Decentraland will hold a series of runway presentations, afterparties, and pop-up stores over four days, with brands displaying digital clothing on avatars strolling down virtual catwalks. Metaverse Fashion Week is free and open to the public, unlike many traditional fashion weeks that only allow guests. Users log onto Decentraland, a browser-based platform.
“Anyone and everyone around the world will be able to participate in MVFW,” stated Giovanna Casimiro, the director of Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW).
“One of the disadvantages of typical fashion shows is that they are too exclusive for the average individual,” she told Dezeen.
“MVFW will be free, and because it will be digital, all you’ll need is a computer and an internet connection to participate.”
With fashion week just a few days away get ready to start personalizing your avatar, the 1st step to collecting gear is having a digital wallet to store it in.

Clothing collections from digital fashion firms such as Auroboros will be on display. During the fashion show, viewers will be able to scan a QR code to see a rendering of an item before purchasing it with non-fungible tokens from their crypto wallet (NFTs).
The user’s avatar can then wear the acquired NFTs. Some can be exchanged for the physical version of the item, thanks to brands collaborating with the brand platform Boson Protocol to sell physical objects in the metaverse Dentraland.
At Metaverse Fashion Week, The Fabricant will debut its Season 1 collection.
The Fabricant, a digital fashion brand, will show off its Hemdrok Jacket and Nehalennia Dropsuit, a long-sleeved leotard, during MVFW.
The Fabricant has urged visitors to submit their updated designs of The Fabricant’s Season 1 line in their fabric and color combinations, keeping with the open-access spirit of Decentraland. A public poll will choose six winning creations for the runway.

On The Fabricant Studio website, The Fabricant invites customers to design their outfits. Amber Jae Slooten, the co-founder of The Fabricant, feels that the fashion show foreshadows a future in which traditional fashion weeks are no longer required, especially given their lousy impact on the environment.
“As we increasingly exhibit ourselves in online spaces, I think a fashion gathering in Decentraland would be a fascinating experiment on how much real-life fashion weeks are required,” she told Dezeen.
“It would save a lot of valuable resources if this fashion week provided a space and time for people to get together online rather than having to go across the world and manufacture all of those physical items/waste to make 10-minute fashion displays,” she added.
Auroboros, a digital fashion firm, will close the event. Biomimicry, the company’s digital collection, will be auctioned as a series of NFTs.
The collection debuted at London Fashion Week 2021, and a crystallizing gown from it was later presented at the London Design Festival. The models will wear Auroboros’ Biomimicry collection. Auroboros provided this image. MVFW is an essential point in the fashion calendar, according to the designers, because it offers digital fashion to a far larger audience.
“Decentraland is now one of the most densely populated metaverses, allowing for rapid trade and 3D engagement,” said Auroboros co-founders Alissa Aulbekova and Paula Sello.
“MVFW is a defining moment for everyone developing and investing digitally,” Sello told Dezeen, citing massive adoption for both the crypto ecosystem and, more recently, the fashion industry.
Attendees will be able to buy garments with their NFTs.
Several brands that traditionally make actual garments will also participate in the event, in addition to digital fashion enterprises. Dolce and Gabbana, an Italian luxury fashion firm, and Hugo Boss, a German fashion house, are among them.
While Decentraland’s fashion week is being billed as the “first-ever” in the metaverse, fashion companies Collina Strada and Mimi Wade have presented fashion presentations in the online metaverse IMVU.
The event will feature shows from traditional fashion houses.
Gucci sponsored a virtual exhibition in the online game Roblox to commemorate its centennial, where players could explore significant designs by Italian fashion designer Alessandro Michele and purchase rare virtual collectibles.
Jonathan Simkhai’s Fall/Winter 2022 runway presentation, which took place in the virtual environment Second Life during NYFW, was one of the first digital fashion shows.
On March 24, Metaverse Fashion Week will begin.
