U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris “comprehends” cryptocurrency and might champion it as a pivotal issue in her burgeoning presidential campaign, according to Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-NC) at the Bitcoin Nashville conference on Saturday.
“We’ve experienced a complete overhaul of the presidential election,” Nickel remarked, adding, “We’ve been striving diligently to secure a reset from the Vice President.”

Nickel’s insights come as twenty-eight Democratic officials, including numerous House members, urge party leaders for a “reset” on crypto policy. Certain party factions are encouraging the Harris campaign to advocate for crypto, Nickel noted.
Cryptocurrency is steadily becoming a central theme in the 2024 election, inundated with tens of millions in fundraising from industry magnates. Democrats are trailing behind former President Donald Trump’s promise to be amicable to Bitcoin and crypto enthusiasts disgruntled by President Joe Biden’s administration and its stringent financial regulators.
Ironically, Trump himself once criticized crypto, labeling Bitcoin a “scam” during his tenure from 2017-2020. Onstage, Nickel taunted Trump for this policy reversal, eliciting robust jeers from the convention hall filled with red MAGA hats. Trump is slated to speak later in the day.
