David Plouffe, a renowned adviser to former President Barack Obama and an expert in cryptocurrency, is set to become a senior adviser for Kamala Harris’ campaign team.
Strategic Expertise Brought to Harris’ Team
As per Politico, Plouffe, who was a pivotal figure in Obama’s administration, will now assume a crucial role within Vice President Harris’ team. He orchestrated Obama’s 2008 campaign and served similarly in the 2012 re-election as a senior adviser in the White House.

Fresh Perspectives in Campaign Dynamics
The addition of Plouffe follows weeks of speculation and concerted lobbying by Harris’ allies for a refreshed approach to the campaign she took over from President Joe Biden, who recently opted out of re-election.
In his new advisory capacity, Plouffe will put his podcast, The Campaign Managers, on hold. He will continue his engagements with private sector clients but will end his advisory role with TikTok.
In September 2022, Plouffe joined the Global Advisory Board of Binance, chaired by former U.S. Senator and Ambassador to China, Max Baucus. Binance announced that the board’s mandate is to guide the company through the intricate regulatory, political, and social challenges faced by the burgeoning crypto industry.
The Imperative of a Clear Crypto Agenda for Harris
The Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) recently emphasized the necessity for Kamala Harris, the leading Democratic candidate, to articulate a clear stance on the crypto sector. This is critical to remain competitive against Republican nominee Donald Trump in crucial battleground states.
The think tank advised that Harris must delineate her own crypto strategy to avoid conceding the narrative to Republicans. Despite being potentially “more open” to crypto than her predecessor Joe Biden, Harris has largely abstained from discussing the topic.
Conversely, Donald Trump has been an ardent supporter of cryptocurrencies, vocally pledging to transform the U.S. into “the crypto capital of the planet” at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville.
