Church Pioneers Blockchain Initiative to Secure $2.5M Chapel

Last Updated: August 20, 2024By

A coalition of church groups known as the “Colorado House of Prayer” has embarked on an innovative journey to tokenize their primary chapel in a bid to acquire the $2.5 million property.

The visionary behind this project, Pastor Blake Bush, believes he was divinely inspired to harness blockchain technology as a means to advance the group’s spiritual mission.

Tokenizing Sacred Grounds

As detailed in a recent Forbes article, Pastor Bush’s congregation, alongside other affiliated church groups, had been leasing the chapel from a local entrepreneur who also owns a car dealership. The 11,457-square-foot structure, fondly referred to as the “Old Stone Church” due to its stone façade, was purchased by the current owner in 2022 for $2.2 million. Now, Bush and the Colorado House of Prayer aim to secure the building for $2.5 million.

The concept of tokenizing the property—transforming it into a digital asset on the blockchain that can be divided into shares—was conceived after what Bush describes as a profound spiritual encounter.

“I heard the Lord say, ‘Tokenize the building,'” Bush shared with Forbes, adding that this revelation came after years of prayer and divine urging to “go get my house.”

Blockchain Meets Real Estate

To fulfill this divine mandate, Bush and his group have created “Stone Coin,” a digital asset designed to facilitate fundraising for the chapel’s acquisition. This coin is linked to a real estate token developed by REtokens and operates on the Polymesh private blockchain.

As with any tokenization endeavor, the project’s success hinges on the flow of tokens and their market value. Although the initiative has raised about half of its target, it is still actively seeking investors.

Looking ahead, the token’s governing board—comprising Bush, other religious leaders, and the mayor of a neighboring town—intends to expand token sales beyond the church community. While this move could potentially expose the digital asset to external influence, Bush remains unperturbed by such risks.

When confronted with the hypothetical scenario of, say, Satanists attempting to take control of the church’s tokens, Bush responded with a mix of humor and faith, saying he would welcome them with, “Let’s introduce you to Jesus.”
