Bluewallet Launched Bitcoin’s lightning payment App for Apple smartwatch.
You can now experience bitcoin’s experimental lightning payments with a few taps of an Apple smartwatch.
Launched on this Sunday by Bluewallet, one of the popular lightning network wallets, their new Apple Watch app allows users to receive bitcoin over its new, risky (but promising) payment technology: lightning. Users can use the smartwatch app to generate a QR code that someone else can then scan with their smartphone to send over a payment.
Bluewallet tweeted a screenshot of the app weeks ago. But now, it’s officially downloadable from the iTunes store.
But why someone wants to receive lightning transactions via a smartwatch? Smart watches are not as widely used as compared to smartphones, but many people use them for the convenience of tracking their health and viewing phone notifications without actually pulling out the phone.
Sometimes the convenience of just receving payments with two taps from your wrist can be relevant user experience, especially on the go. Adding it might be useful if someone’s buying bitcoin from someone, but “don’t feel comfortable” taking out their phone, you could just use the watch instead, says a company official.
But the company stresses that this is an experiment, since lightning technology itself is still very experimental, and they’re not sure how many users will actually want to use the app.
If feedback is good, the company is ready to spend more time on the project.“It’s a very early stage industry so the company’s trying to figure out how to build this stuff properly.
