Last Updated: July 25, 2018By

The most beautiful thing about Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrency are that anyone: be of any gender, nationality, caste, creed, or, race can pan out success in this domain of recent technology. Nonetheless, there are instances where the gender equality divagated. There is an immediate need to understand this trade-off. Not only for the female-balance in tech but also for a better world to live in.

Instances which cite great concern

A New York Times article noted that: When a virtual currency company called DateCoin recently tried to entice investors for its initial coin offering, it posted a Facebook ad that featured a reclining woman in a swimsuit with text over her body that read, “Touch my I.C.O.” Moreover, the official conference party for the North American Bitcoin Conference in January 2018 which took place at a Miami strip club. To aggravate the already pitiful situation,   of the 87 speakers at the event, only three were female. After receiving numerous complaints about the unequal gender ratio did the conference organizer, Moe Levin, replace two male speakers with two female speakers. “It just coincidentally happened that there were more men than women speakers,” said Levin. “It’s not intentional not to include them. It’s just we don’t have time to include them.” The conference had also showcased skimpily clothed models in the previous year which were painted gold and holding Bitcoin logos.

Efforts so far were taken

Recently, efforts have been taken to get more women involved in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. Hard-taken efforts like arranging the Mogul’s “Women in Crypto” events and organizations like the Women in Blockchain Foundation, Women in Blockchain have been making an effort to get more women involved in the blockchain and crypto space. These organizations actively arrange meetups for interested women who can come together to know and learn more about this upcoming technology. Also, an event has been planned in Stockholm who’s organizers are determined to maintain the 50% Women Policy.

The World Blockchain Academy For Girls is one such project that’s seeking to create greater opportunities for young girls and women in the field of technology.
