Script of Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘Bee Movie’ Uploaded to Ethereum Amid Plunging Gas Fees Following Dencun Upgrade
The Bee Movie script copy-pasting trend Ethereum originated on Tumblr before spreading rapidly across various social media platforms such as Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, and others.
Following the Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum network, developers are seizing the opportunity for some playful experimentation on the blockchain, thanks to a notable decrease in data fees.
Taking advantage of the lowered transaction costs, developers are uploading the entire script of The Bee Movie, a beloved animated comedy by iconic comedian Jerry Seinfeld, onto the Ethereum blockchain. The narrative follows a bee who takes legal action against humans, resulting in comedic chaos.
“I didn’t get the first blob, but as far as I can tell, I DID get the first BEE MOVIE on mainnet,” announced Paradigm developer Dan Cline on Wednesday, shortly after the introduction of the new blobs feature. Remarkably, the transaction cost him only about $14.
Soon after, another developer followed suit, posting the script for a mere $5 as fees continued to decline. The act of copying and pasting the Bee Movie script has become a niche internet meme, originating on Tumblr before spreading to platforms like Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook.

In a similar vein, back in March 2023, a developer made headlines by posting the script on the Bitcoin blockchain for the first time, leveraging the newly introduced Ordinals technology for text data posting on Bitcoin.
Blobs serve as a cost-effective method for temporarily storing data about transactions, made possible by Wednesday’s upgrade. Uploaded data remains on the network for approximately eighteen days before being permanently removed. These blobs are primarily intended for use in layer 2 networks that operate atop Ethereum, offering an alternative to data storage within Ethereum blocks.
The efficacy of these measures is evident. Data from L2Fees indicates that fees on the Optimism layer 2 network were less than a cent as of Thursday morning, significantly lower than usual levels. Similarly, developers on the Base blockchain reported a staggering 99.8% reduction in fees, with costs amounting to just $0.0005 instead of the previous $0.31.
