With Coronavirus (COVID-19) disrupting significant parts of the world and obstructing several activities, Bangladesh has flagged-off a two-day online blockchain workshop for its teens, to assist in preparing them for the forthcoming Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh (BCOLBD) competition. 

As published on Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) today, the online workshop is intended to develop youths’ knowledge of blockchain technology while equipping them for the upcoming BCOLBD competition that will be conducted from April 16 to 18. The BCOLBD is an initiative formed by the Bangladesh Ministry of ICT, Academia, and the ICT Industry.

According to the report, the workshop is being led by the Hong Kong Blockchain Society with attendees from about 157 teams, which constitutes of 459 students from 15 tertiary institutions all over the country. 

The online blockchain workshop, which was inaugurated by Bangladesh state minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, was hosted online as a mechanism to avoid vast physical, social gatherings that could indirectly enhance the range of the COVID-19 virus.   

Expressing passion toward the development, Palak praised the organizers of the event for using the technological benefits of the blockchain to conduct online workshops at this trying time. In essence, a move he believes is in cognizance with developing a “digital Bangladesh,” while adding:  

“We are very hopeful about the online blockchain workshop, which would help develop the capacity of our young talents on blockchain technology.”

The Hong Kong Blockchain Society stated that after the prosperous conclusion of the BCOLBD competition in April, the best top 20 teams would be elected and mentored to additionally develop them into becoming blockchain professionals, while the top five successful teams will receive cash rewards. 

Also, the BCOLBD will moreover sponsor the overall best team to participate in the International Blockchain Olympiad, which will be held in Hong Kong in July this year.
