All about NFT Collection – Bored Apes Yacht Club (BAYC)

Last Updated: March 21, 2022By

When two aspiring literary writers met in a Miami bar, they could never have imagined that just months later, they would team up to co-found a multibillion-dollar NFT collection. In 2021, a group of 10,000 edgy cartoon apes with bizarre traits was developed, inspired by the hardcore, punk music, and hip-hop scenes of the 1980s and 1990s.

Gargamel, Gordon Goner, No Sass, and Emperor Tomato Ketchup are the primary members of the NFT collection, who are also the founders of Yuga Labs, a Web3 firm. When the team fell in love with crypto Twitter, it immediately realized that the niche group didn’t want flashy automobiles or real-life affirmation; instead, they desired a sense of digital belonging and a place to call home.

Years in the future, when crypto traders are wealthy beyond their wildest dreams, life quickly becomes monotonous, according to the inventors. So they hang out with a bunch of degenerate apes at the Bored Apes Yacht Club in the Everglades.

BAYC’s 2021

In short than a year, the BAYC has grown into a well-known NFT collection, with sales exceeding $1 billion. BAYC initially struggled to sell out during its presale launch in May, with only a radio station and a collaborative online canvas called “BAYC Bathroom” being advertised. A week later, all 10,000 primates had been sold, and the BAYC had quickly become a popular smart contract on the Ethereum network. The team started a flood of profile-picture NFT projects, setting the tone for the rest of the year.

After eight months, the BAYC has completed its first roadmap, which included the creation of additional membership tiers through the Bored Ape Kennel Club and the Mutant Ape Yacht Club, both of which were freebie airdrops that helped to grow the community. The apes have also made appearances at well-known real-life auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s, where they have sold for millions of dollars.

The BAYC’s second roadmap was revealed on September 21 and has already come to fruition, with NFT collection reaching a floor price of over 70 ETH. The BAYC has motivated collectors to develop their own identities, embodying the personas of the collectors who possess them, which is why so many have joined.

The community additionally improved on the BAYC design by producing derivative collections, including Jenkins the Valet, The Boring Ape Chronicles, and Ape-In Productions, all of which took advantage of Yuga Labs’ exclusive commercial rights.

BAYC is quickly becoming a globally recognized brand, with its highly anticipated APE token on the way. For its inaugural NFT, the Bored Ape Yacht Club initiative partnered with Adidas, and for its future blockchain game, it partnered with Animoca Brands. Apes swapped punks near the end of the year when BAYC’s floor price topped that of CryptoPunks.

The ABC’s of NFT Collection 2022

As the year progresses, the BAYC will work to complete all of its second roadmap milestones NFT collection, which include an app store game, a blockchain game, Metaverse access, a DAO, a token, and even a real-life Miami club bar.

As it solidifies its position in a fast-expanding NFT industry, the BAYC is expected to attract more mainstream businesses and high-profile personalities. The year is likely to witness a few new records for BAYC, with floor prices spiking at the start of 2022 and both Bored Ape Kennel Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs following the trade volume spikes.
