Top 7 Classic NFT Memes That Sold For A Whooping High Price

Last Updated: December 13, 2023By

NFTs are all the rage these days. As a result, they’ve elicited a wide range of sentiments and feelings on the internet. As a result, NFT memes have become ingrained in popular culture. Similarly, attitudes regarding online communities range from skepticism to outright hate. For example, a certain level of scepticism is beneficial. We must not overlook the blockchain as a decentralized database, which serves as the foundation for NFTs. The blockchain is a more decentralized method of exchanging value. NFT memes are an example of this.

Evolution of NFTs: Culture, Utility, and Regulation

When the internet became widely used around the world, the realm of NFT memes arose. Since the cost of smartphones dropped at the end of the decade, mobile internet gained traction. As social media grew more widely used, every adult had a new way to communicate with the rest of the world. The language of the internet began to shift from text to image-rich text, audio, and video. Memes with memorable graphics and text convey human sentiment in a variety of situations.

Today, we’d like to showcase seven iconic images that were turned into NFT memes and sold for a lot of money.

NFT Meme: Disaster Girl

Who can forget a little child smiling in front of a burning building? Similarly, what if there are onlookers and firefighters present? Yes, we’re all guilty of it. Zoe Roth is the girl in the picture, and her father captured it in 2005. On a residence, a routine fire exercise was being held. She was four at the time. From 2008 onwards, her photo became very popular. When the world was in disarray, it was used to symbolize someone who was pleased.

Zoe is now twenty-one years old. Her classic NFT meme was sold for 180 ETH, or $557,629.20, in April 2021.

NFT Meme: Success Kid

Everyone has seen a child punching himself in the face.

Similarly, here’s the backstory on that. Laney Griner of Jacksonville, Florida, took her 11-month-old son, Sam, to the beach in August 2007. Ponte Vedra Beach, located south of their property, is ideal for summer photographs. Sam, on the other hand, was more interested in the sand. Laney was unable to catch a smiling photo no matter how hard she tried.

Finally, in her final attempt, she was able to obtain a photograph of Sam, who would later become known as the ‘Success Kid.’

This iconic NFT meme sold for $46,486.35 in 15.00 ETH.

NFT meme: “Bad Luck Brian.”

This popular meme depicts a circumstance in which someone is unlucky in some way.

As a result, a picture from Ian Davies’ yearbook about his friend Kyle Craven was uploaded as a joke. It took on a new life on the social networking platform Reddit. Users began to use it to make jokes about persons who were having terrible luck. Many people could identify with it on a personal level. After all, everyone encounters situations in which they are forced to laugh at their own misfortune.

Ian and Kyle coined the original classic NFT meme as an NFT. In March 2021, it was sold for 20.00 ETH ($62,943).

NFT meme: Doge meme

The animated comedic online series ‘Homestar Runner’ aired an episode named ‘Boz Cas Fri 1’ in the summer of 2005. Homestar referred to the show’s main character, Strong Bad, as his ‘Doge,’ which means to pronounce it like a real dog. The term was first used before it became associated with Shibas in real life. Homestar’s goal was to divert Strong Bad’s attention away from his task.

Doge has had a tumultuous past. Atsuko, a Japanese Kindergarten teacher, adopted a dog about five years later, in the early 2010s. Kabosu (a Shiba Inu dog) was another dog who enjoyed posing for the camera. She posted Kabosu’s images on her personal site one day. In the early 2010s, as mobile internet became more popular around the world, it reached sites like Tumblr and Reddit.

Kabosu’s face was the world’s focal point. Similarly, in late 2013, it became the most well-known face of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. This Shiba meme is represented by it. This was the start of Bitcoin’s first major bull run.

As a result, the world’s attention has been drawn to cryptocurrency and meme culture. Elon Musk once changed his Twitter profile picture to a picture of Kabuso zooming to the moon. He called himself the ‘Dogefather’ at one point. PleasrDAO bought this class NFT meme for $4 million dollars. According to the NFT auction site Zora, the community placed a bid of 1,696.9 ETH.

NFT Meme: Overly Attached Girlfriend

In 2020, ex-YouTuber Laina Morris told Buzzfeed, “The creepy face was absolutely a last-minute decision.”

“You’re really going to make me weep over a creepy expression I made nine years ago?!” she tweeted after the auction. “You have no idea how much this is going to affect my life,” she says. I’m serious. I’m grateful beyond words, and I’m still blown away. It’s fantastic. So strange. Wtf. “Internet, thank you.”

Laina made a video that went viral on YouTube in 2012. She turned Justin Bieber’s “girlfriend” into a desperation song. “If I were your girlfriend, I’d never let you leave; without a small recording device stuck under your sleeve,” the song said. With her face represented in various ways, the classic became a meme shared millions of times.

The NFT meme about the overly attached girlfriend sold for 200.00 ETH, or $629,658.

NFT meme: Scumbag Steve

Scumbag Steve‘s classic meme was auctioned off as an NFT in 2021. In 2006, it became popular on the social networking site MySpace. The NFT marketplace Foundation labelled it a “legendary class internet meme.”

Blake Boston, 16, was the subject of the famous online photo. He was dressed in a winter coat with a fake fur collar and a backward cap. It’s a term used by social media users to describe how everyone knows about a person’s personality. An opportunistic and freeloading adolescent who causes societal mayhem. That’s what the moniker ‘Scumbag Steve’ implies.

The price of this famous NFT meme was 30.2008 ETH ($94,925.34).

NFT Meme: Nyan Cat

A 25-year-old submitted a video on his website in April of 2011. It was a pixelated cat cartoon. And there was a cat with the body shape of a pop tart who left a rainbow trail as an illusory exhaust emission. The cat flies through space like an infinite swath across the sky.

Chris Torres, the artist, has since assisted numerous other artists in entering the NFT realm. Torres sold the Nyan Cat NFT meme for 300.00 ETH ($940,908.00) as an NFT. “It’s just incredibly recognized,” he later told Decrypt, a Web 3.0 video portal, and “That’s what built the value.”
